About Us

Owners: Jason Hayman and Nancy Stromp

Hello potential guests, we live on premises in the upstairs section of the home.  Jason, or “Captain J”, can arrange to take you out snorkeling to remote US Virgin Island destinations on Serena Sea, a 1951 30 ft. Egg Harbor boat which looks like the Gilligan’s Island type boat.  If island hopping is an interest, a newly acquired Glacier Bay boat can be chartered for half day or full day trips.  Private yoga classes and massages can be provided on the premises.

We started vacationing in St. John about ten years ago.  We often dreamed about a life away from our hectic lives in New Jersey.  We wanted a more peaceful and tranquil life.  So in 2009, we decided to take the plunge and we purchased Pelican Beach on Friis Bay. (Photo taken from Rams Head, 2007)

Before we started work on Pelican Beach, the house was known as the Gingerbread House.  Many locals knew of the house and had previously lived in the downstairs apartment.  We loved the location and we knew a great deal of love and energy was needed to fix up our home.

In June, 2010, we were married under our seagrape trees.  Family and friends from all over the US and from here on St. John joined us. Our reception followed at Miss Lucy’s Restaurant, just a short walk down the hill. (Photo taken on our beach under the seagrape trees)

Our new life on St. John:

Nancy is living her dream.  She left her corporate financial executive life and is semi-retired. She is happy to no longer have a desk job. She is currently volunteering as the yoga director at Concordia Eco-Resorts.  She has been practicing yoga for almost 20 years and is part of the St. John yoga teacher group, Do Yoga St. John.  (Go to doyogastjohnvi.com for more information).  To keep her socially engaged, she  helps out occasionally at The Tourist Trap (great food) near Concordia. Jason is living a life above and beyond his expectations.  Jason has recently become a commercial boat captain and is nicknamed “Captain J”.  In addition, he is working on his instructors level certification for scuba diving.

Jason can also take guests on island hopping charters to the British Virgin Islands or around St. John!!! Here is a photo of our Glacier Bay boat in our bay right in front of our house…name of the boat…Knot E Buoys!!!

Jason and Nancy welcome you to Pelican Beach…you are sure to find Pelican Beach a treasured paradise.  (Photo taken on the beach at Miss Lucy’s restaurant, a very short walk from Pelican Beach on Friis Bay)
